5th Street Farm Farmer's Market in Sonoma

Swing by our farmer's market every Thursday (May - October) throughout the harvest season to stock up on local grown produce sold by my son Tyge!

As some of you know, I grew up on a chicken farm in Chico, and spent my childhood as an egg handler, learning how to garden at a young age. Each spring we planted our summer crops excited to watch them grow throughout the hot Chico summer. When I moved to Sonoma, a community rich in agriculture, it felt like I was coming home.

Our home in Sonoma allowed for a large garden, so it was only natural to begin farming the land. Thus, 5th Street Farm was born. We have spent the past 5 years developing 5th Street Farm into a working farm providing custom crops to local restaurants in Sonoma. On a mission to reduce food waste, we also began preserving the left over food, which can be purchased at Chateau Sonoma in our pantry section. Our tomato jam is a huge hit!

I am passionate about growing my own food, not only for the health benefits, but also because it allows me to slow down and get in touch with my roots. It was this summer that I was able to share some of these memories with my son, Tyge. Together, we raised chicks from our own flock, and grew our own food from seed. It is a magical experience to get to share something you are so passionate about with your child. Watching his eyes light up as his chicks hatched was a priceless memory.

As a way to teach Tyge about agriculture, which is such a vital part of the culture in Sonoma, I thought it would be wonderful for him to harvest and sell his own veggies at his very own farmer's market. He was a fan of this idea, and has spent every Thursday afternoon selling eggplants, tomatoes, fruit, eggs, flowers, and anything else ready to eat! Not only has this been an early lesson in entrepreneurship, but it has been a way for me to pass on some of my memories and family traditions.

He will continue to keep his farm stand open throughout the harvest season, and is open every Thursday afternoon from 3-5pm. So swing by and support this young farmer while stocking up on delicious, Sonoma grown produce!
