Jewelry designer and female entrepreneur, Bess Nathan Rice recently joined us at our new location on the Sonoma Plaza. Bess has had a store in Sonoma for over 12 years, Studio Collections Jewelry, and recently decided to spend more time on her jewelry design and we a thrilled with what she has created and curated for our Chateau Sonoma vibe!

Last week I had the good fortune of having lunch with Bess and talking about her career in jewelry design and where she gets her inspiration:

Sarah: We have alway been admirers of your work since we first discovered you 20 years ago and know how much you love all things vintage as you have collected nearly all of the Napoleon III jewelry boxes we have brought to the shop from France over the years. Where else do you draw inspiration for your jewelry collection?

Bess: I draw inspiration from many sources.  I love studying the art of jewelry and often go to museums to see jewelry shows featuring pieces from the ancient world to contemporary times; the pure gold of ancient Egyptian or Greek jewelry to the modern designs featuring gemstones and sophisticated fabrication  from Faberge, Cartier and Bulgari.

My own designs are heavily influenced by antique European, Near Eastern, and East Indian jewelry designs.  Sometimes the design inspiration simply comes from the shape of a gemstone, the color or a silhouette that is trending in fashion. My collection is eclectic, and I enjoy giving myself the freedom to design without limiting myself to a certain style .

Sarah: What are some of your favorite places in Sonoma?

Bess’ Favorite Sonoma Shops and Restaurants
