Chocolate is a way of life in France and we would like to share with you one of our favorite chocolate and confection establishments in Wine Country.
Oh how the French love chocolates and so do we! We are so happy to have discovered La Forêt Chocolate and Confections in a nearby shop in Napa, CA.
What is the history of chocolate?
The history of chocolate dates back to the 450 BC in Southern Mexico and some historians say even earlier than that. The decadent “aphrodisiac” did not arrive in France until 1615 when Anne of Austria gifted it to her husband Louis III. Then Louis XiV took it from there and introduced it to Versailles where Confectioners became highly trained and held in high regard.
How La Forêt was Started
Fast forward… Wendy Sherwood of La Forêt looked to the French style of chocolate making before opening her boutique shop. She trained at the Le Cordon Bleu in Paris and honed her craft at The French Laudry in Napa and at Patrick Roger, the famous chocolate atelier in Paris. She was also awarded the Julia Child Endowment Fund Scholashrip and and was able to study at the École Lenôtre and traveling for several months throughout France visiting prominent chocolatiers.
Wendy has a love affair with France as do we and she collects flavors when she is traveling throughout France and puts together a seasonal collection that has a limited allocation. You will definitely want to be on that list. When they’re gone, that’s it. She also consistently has an amazing collection that she carries in her shop throughout the year. A place you won’t want to miss the next time you are in wine country!
She has pick-up during this time of Quarantine just in time for Easter and you can get her sea salt caramels in our shop!
