Celebrating Easter with festive table decor, fresh flowers, bunnies and favorite traditions!
Easter is one of my favorite times of year and I usually have my very large family here to celebrate. This year is a little different due to these unusual set of circumstances and an unwelcome covid-19 intruder, but we will still carry on with our favorite traditions as best we can. To start, we will turn off the news for the day, take pause and give thanks for what we do have—each other! Even if its via ZOOM! We will bring in whatever blooms we have in the yard, set a festive table and enjoy the day we’ve been given.

Easter egg Dying contest and hunt ~some with surprises
Each year we buy an entire lamb from a local farmer. Our inspiration comes from Chef Frances Mallman and his Seven Fires cookbook. The night before we slather the lamb with olive oil, salt, pepper and cover it in branches of rosemary for added flavor. The following morning, my neighbor starts a bonfire that will be stoked throughout the day to keep a steady heat for the lamb to cook evenly. We attach the lamb to a cross spit and angle it over the fire for the next 8 hours. It is a great source of entertainment for guests who come and sit by the fire periodically throughout the day.
Decorating Easter Eggs
Easter egg coloring contests is also another tradition that we have carried on over the years. It began when I was a child and we all spent the evening before Easter with all of the cousins and not only dyed the eggs, but came up with very elaborate designs. We do the same now and fill a table with clippings from the garden, feathers, pipe cleaners and other crafty finds that make for some really wacky and fun creations.
Then off they go the next morning for the Easter egg hunt! Once the cousins are through hunting, we move on to the egg toss. This is done with eggs that have not been boiled…You start with a partner and stand 5 feet apart. You toss the egg to your teammate and if they catch it you both move one step back and continue this way until there is just one team left.
OH!! and don’t forget the Champagne!!!
Happy Easter to all and stay healthy and hopeful,
